SCREENPLAY&MUSIC DOMINATED THE "SLUMDOG"

STORY:
Jamal (Dev Patel) is an orphan from the slums of Mumbai. He gets to attend the game show ‘who wants to be a millionaire’ when he is 18. Surprisingly he starts giving the right answers till he gets into the final round. And all these questions have relevance to certain incidents happened in his life. The game show host and cops suspect that Jamal cheated in the show. The rest of the story is all about how he proves his innocence and wins his lady love that’s been playing hide and seek with him since his childhood.

Slumdog Millionaire is an Indian film at heart with Indian emotions catering to Indian sensibilities. This film balances arts with commerce. It is also the best example of presenting a story in a realistic way without missing the formula. The best part in this film is the screenplay and most of the credit for this screenplay should go to the Indian writer Vikas Swaroop who wrote ‘Q & A’ book. Direction of the film is world class and narration balances the sensible humor and subtle tragedy. On a whole Slumdog Millionaire is a must see film and will put India on the world cinema map like Gandhi (1982) film.

Story – screenplay – direction:
The story of this film is adapted from a book Q & A written by an Indian author Vikas Swaroop. It is an interesting story that has two parallel plots interwoven into a game show. Direction of the film is brilliant. The screenplay is extraordinary. This film combines both arts and commerce. It has a highly realistic treatment to it with an undercurrent box office winning formula.

One thing should be noted that even we say it's one of goldenglobes, there have boss side by some aspects of movie that as screnplay and music dominated other remained.

As icing on the cake, the Musical score by Rahman makes it big with the visual perception. To a certain extent, title song 'O Saayo' seems to be carrying the traces of opening scene in Fernando Meirelles' 'City of God'. Rahman's earnest involvement in getting along with creative thoughts of the cinematographer and Danny Boyle has yielded the best results. Doubtlessly, 'Jai Ho' and 'O...Saayo' are electrifying making you feel to watch it over again for many times. Nithin Desai's set decoration of 'Kaun Banega Crorepathi' and the marvelous Taj Mahal are a masterpiece.

On the whole, 'Slumdog Millionaire' has various reasons to capture everyone's attention. Probably, the most top-charting show of 'Who wants to be a Millionaire', 'Kaun Banega Crorepathi' should have earlier pulled everyone. Nevertheless, there's something more close to your hearts than these factors of emotional vistas. A beautifully portrayed romance bounded with lots of hurdles in the union till last moment is sure to melt down your hearts.

Censor Board clears 'Dasavatharam' with 9 cuts

Universal star Kamal Haasan’s latest venture, `Dasavatharam’, is finally ready to hit theatres with a clean ‘U’ certificate after the Censor Board has made nine cuts. Most of the cuts have been made from a Mallika Sherawat item song. The film has had considerable delay from the announced date after the intervention of a Hindu organisation, claiming to have hurt their religious sentiments. It is confirmed that the film will now be released either on May 23 or June 6th. Producer Oscar Ravichandran and Director K S Ravikumar want the film to be released at the earliest for two reasons — the receding school vacation and the release of Rajnikant’s big-budget film, `Kuselan.’

The film deals with many issues including environment. It will be released in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi simultaneously.

Dasavathaaram will be released with a record number of prints.

For Telugu alone, 250 prints will be released, in addition to the 14 overseas prints already shipped to the US, for the premiere show.

The film directed by K.S. Ravi Kumar has Kamal Haasan essaying 10 different roles. Some of the film’s highlights are music by Himmesh Reshammiya and the highest technical standards in Indian Cinema.

'CHAK DE INDIA' achieved IIFA awards

'Chak De! India', which won critical acclaim and mass popularity, also swept the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) 2008 awards on Sunday night as it was named the best film while superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Shimit Amin lifted the best actor and best director trophies respectively for the film. Kareena Kapoor was named the best actress for 'Jab We Met'.

However, Shah Rukh was not present at the gala and producer Yash Copra accepted the award on his behalf.

The film about a coach inspiring the Indian women's hockey team to victory also won awards for story and screenplay.

The best male and female style icons were Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif, respectively.

Music composer A.R. Rahman was honoured for "outstanding achievement by an Indian in international cinema".

While veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal and Mumtaz, a popular star of the yesteryears, won the special honours for lifetime achievement, actor Akshay Kumar bagged the special award from the host country, Thailand.

The award for the best performance in a negative role went to Viveik Oberoi for 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', while the one for the best performance in a comic role went to Govinda ('Partner').

Neil Nitin Mukesh was named "the fresh face of the year".

At the grand ceremony at Siam Niramik, Karan Johar, Urmila Matondkar, Boman Irani and Ritesh Deshmukh compered Bollywood's much awaited award ceremony. It was the team of Boman and Ritesh that won the hearts of the audience with their easy repartee in a show that could, however, do with better management.

The 2,000-capacity hall was full, with a majority of the audience consisting of the Indian diaspora.

The award announcements were preceded by performances of songs from some eagerly awaited Hindi films and Govinda stole the show with his dance number.

THOUGHTS OF A MODERN YOUTH

LOVE IS ALL BOX AND NO CORNFLAKES

Now that we both know the opposite sex is grief's retail outlet -
And you won't spit on my grave, in case something grows -
Now that I've taken the fly off my neck I wore when I heard your husband say he wouldn't hurt one,
Now we're both angry as cornered pacifists because forever didn't last long enough for me to get my shoes and socks back on....
I'll admit - that when I cooked, and we were short of vinegar - I just used Windex.

THE LOVE(LY) THOUGHTS OF THE MODERN UTH

LOVE IS A CONCUSSION OF THE SOUL
One look, and I want desperately to take your breath away for a dirty weekend.
When I glimpse down your blouse, my heart pounds like two deaf cats tap-dancing on an old wash-tub.
This isn't just love, for when my soul falls into your eyes I know that on the great sweater of life, I've found another fuzz-ball like myself.
Someone who wouldn't look at a print of Da Vinci's "Last Supper", and ask what a table like that would cost, nowadays.
Someone who knows that love isn't what you have to do if you can't find your TV Guide
anywhere.

JALSA is really rocking. It grossed more than 21 crores in the first week. Every one anticipated that Jalsa would rock but only waited to see the range. As every one spoke on the Jalsa audio release day - if Pawan can give out an average film, it would rock the box office. What if the film is proved hit? Sky is the limit for the records. That is what is happening now. Producer Allu Aravind is very happy that they delivered yet another film that is proving the stamina of Telugu film industry. Talking about the same, Allu Aravind said, 'We know the film is coming out great and we wanted to take the range of the film to a different level; the release of the film is planned that way. 1.17 Crore audience saw the film and it collected a gross of 21 crores in first week. I would say that the film proved the stamina of the Telugu film industry rather than saying that my film created records. The same feel is going even overseas. It released with 45 prints in overseas and is creating all new records. There is a Boxoffice analysis community known as Boxoffice Mojo. They provide ratings to the films based on the box office stamina. For the first time, they listed a Telugu movie in their ratings. And I am very proud that it happened to be Jalsa. It got 9th Place in the ratings'. Earlier Tamil version of Sivaji got rating in the Mojo and it stood at 15th place.
